Bond & Budget Vote Campaigns

A bond vote is not a budget question. It is a trust question.

Bonds do not fail on the numbers. They fail on the silence around them.

A few hundred people decide the future of a building that will stand for fifty years. The gap between passing and failing is almost always a handful of neighbors who never felt spoken to.

Votes that separated Mount Sinai's 2018 bond from passing. It was defeated 664 to 428. Seven years later, the district passed a $28 million bond.

About 40% of the people in your community grew up there. Many chose to raise a family in the same town that raised them, because of how it felt to walk those halls.

They are not voting against your students. They are voting on whether they believe you. Show up with a tax figure and a slide deck, and the answer defaults to no.

A better facility gives students pride. Proud students get a better education. Better educated students become better community members. Say that with real faces and real voices, and the vote takes care of itself.

The work

Three districts. Three very different problems. Three passed bonds.

Every campaign started with a strategy session to find the real story: the key voices, what the community actually believes, and what this bond does for the town around it.

“On The Horizon” bond referendum, approved December 5, 2023
807 – 278 roughly 74% yes

The challenge

A superintendent two years into the job asking for $58 million. Hauppauge has no downtown and no main street. The district is the hub, and nobody had said that plainly.

The approach

We built the film around that idea. It closes on a coach who grew up in Hauppauge, never left, and could not talk about the place without his voice changing. No script writes that. It is why people voted yes.

Capital improvement bond, approved May 21, 2024
Passed with overwhelming community support

The challenge

One of the largest districts on Long Island, spread across many communities, asking for the biggest number of the three. At that scale, residents stop feeling like the district belongs to them.

The approach

We made it about the alumni who never left. Still here, still showing up on Friday nights, still invested. This is still your district, and its future is still your call.

The drumbeat before the vote

One film does not carry a campaign. Short vignettes released in the weeks before the vote kept the district top of mind, each with a different reason to care.

Bond referendum, approved September 25, 2025
Passed after a 2018 bond was defeated 664–428

The challenge

The hardest of the three. Mount Sinai had already lost a bond, and the community's read on why was simple: leadership had not been transparent enough. That district is not starting at zero. It is starting below it.

The approach

We did not paper over the history. Show the work plainly, then let residents and students say what Mount Sinai means to them. Transparency did the convincing. The story made people show up.

After the vote

Passing the bond is the beginning of the promise.

Most districts go quiet the day after a vote passes, then wonder why the next one is harder. We keep filming through construction so residents see exactly what their yes vote is building.

It answers the question every skeptic asks out loud at the next meeting: what happened to the last one? Show them, and the next campaign starts with trust instead of doubt.

7 Things Your Bond Vote Needs

Bonds rarely fail on the plan. They fail on the silence around it. One page, from three campaigns that passed. Print it and bring it to your next facilities meeting.

Beyond the film

The video is one piece of the puzzle. We help you run the whole thing.

A bond campaign is marketing, not advertising. You are not telling people you need something. You are showing them how this serves the community they already love.

The campaign film

One anchor film built from real voices in your district. Short enough that people finish it. Honest enough that they believe it.

Vignettes & social cutdowns

Short pieces released on a schedule before the vote, so your district stays top of mind instead of surfacing once and disappearing.

Board & community presentations

Your public meeting deck should feel like the film, not a budget spreadsheet. We build presentations that hold a room.

Mailers & print

The piece on the kitchen table carries the same message as the film. One campaign instead of five disconnected pieces.

Distribution strategy

Where it runs matters as much as what it says. 500 views from the right neighbors beats 50,000 from the wrong ones.

After the vote

Construction films that show residents exactly what their yes vote built. This is how trust compounds.

When to bring us in

Earlier is better. But it is rarely too late.

We have come in at the planning stage and at the five yard line. Both work. One is just calmer than the other.

Planning stage

Before the plan is final

We learn the district early and help shape how the project gets talked about from day one. The story and the plan grow together.

The full campaign window

Enough runway for a proper strategy session, the shoot, the anchor film and the vignettes, released on a schedule that builds momentum instead of dumping everything in the final week.

Five yard line

Weeks from the vote

Late is not lost. We move fast, get the essential voices on camera, and change the conversation in the time you have left.

Looking at a vote in the next year? The best time to talk was six months ago. The second best is now, and it costs nothing.
